Goodvalley's business can be traced back to 1980, when the idea of a new way of producing food - one that was high in quality and yet had less environmental impact than traditional crops - was born. In 1994, a group of Danes led by Tom Axelgaard saw the potential in transferring Danish knowledge and experience in modern pig production to the newly emerging countries after the collapse of the Soviet Union. This is how Goodvalley was founded.
We are taking our first steps in Poland. A farm is being built in the middle of a maize field to minimise the transport of feed and combine all elements of production in one place. This is the beginning of our journey towards more sustainable agriculture.
We are expanding further. A slaughterhouse is being built close to the farms, allowing us to lay the foundations of the farm-to-table model.
After a successful start in Poland, we are heading to Ukraine. We want to share our experience and continue building local production in a region with great potential.
We are opening our first biogas plant in Poland. We turn production waste into green energy that heats our farms and feeds into the power grid. By 2011, eight biogas plants are in operation and Goodvalley at that time becomes the largest producer of agricultural biogas in Poland.
The first biogas plant is also being built in Ukraine - another step towards a closed, sustainable cycle.
Our efforts are being recognised. Goodvalley receives the Transformational Business Award from The Financial Times and the World Bank for innovative, climate-friendly solutions.
The next step was to take our responsible approach to shop shelves. We introduced the first Goodvalley branded pork products.
We care not only about what's inside, but also about the packaging. Our products reach customers in recycled and recyclable materials.
A new brand is emerging on the Polish market - Dolina Dobra. The name better reflects our values and brings us even closer to consumers.
We are celebrating two important anniversaries - 20 years in Ukraine and 30 years in Poland. These are decades of innovation, work and passion for sustainable agriculture.
It is 20 years since our first biogas plant was commissioned. Biogas has become a pillar of our vision of integrated and nature-friendly agriculture. Today we are going one step further - we have the ambition to be one of the first companies in Poland to produce biomethane and feed it into the grid.
