The fundamental principle of each stage of production is careful preparation - from field work to the final product, which reaches the tables of customers - always respecting the principles of sustainability and responsibility for natural resources.
In Poland and Ukraine, we farm a total of 31,400 hectares of land on which we grow cereals, which form the basis for the production of feed in our factories. On the fields, we use valuable organic fertiliser, which is the end product of biogas production or natural fertiliser that comes directly from the animals. It improves soil quality and is better absorbed by the soil. It also has a much lower carbon footprint than mineral fertilisers produced using large quantities of natural gas.
We mainly grow wheat, triticale, rape, rye, soya (in Ukraine) and maize. We use modern farming techniques, such as GPS systems that monitor the condition of the soils. This reduces the use of fertilisers and thus reduces our environmental impact - cereals are used to feed our animals, rapeseed goes to the oil mill and plant biomass is used in our biogas plants.
We take care to cultivate our fields ourselves. This gives us full control over every stage of cereal production. We use modern technology and equipment - by introducing the principles of regenerative agriculture, our machinery works in a way that is less invasive for the environment.
At Goodvalley, we run a feed mill where we produce feed for our animals. This ensures that our mixes are well balanced and contain only the best ingredients to support animals staying healthy and achieving optimum growth rates.
Caring for animal welfare is part of Goodvalley's DNA and our pigs are only given antibiotics when necessary to cure disease and maintain health. Our standards don't stop at meeting EU requirements - we provide adequate space for the animals, access to toys (known as enrichment materials) and constant care from our staff. We keep Landrace and Yorkshire breeds crossed with Duroc on our farms.
We do not use preservatives in the production of our products. Thanks to the short chain and the control of every stage of production, we can take total responsibility for the quality and health qualities of our meat.
In our biogas plants, we process biomass and agricultural residues from all stages of production. As a result, we generate heat and electricity to power our farms and processing plants. The final product of the biogas plant is a valuable organic fertiliser that is used on our fields. This benefits the soil and makes the entire production more climate-friendly.
